The Airplane Boys are back, and man are they ever making a sweet landing! It’s been quite the ride for these two Torontonians. From touring the UK with the iconic Snoop Dogg, to creating something new and fresh, their latest project entitled: “Alignment” is nothing short of genuinely, creative material! From track number one, which shares the albums title, the boys give you the listener one piece of solid advice: “let your mind free”, and from there you already know that you my friend, are in for one hell of a ride!

Very rarely do we hear a consistent freshness to music with any artist, let alone a duo. Something about these two just click and in their latest mixtape, clicking is probably an understatement. Beck Motley and Bon Voyage along with their great team of producers, writers and of course their family inside the world of Beau Monde, (which track four off of the mixtape is named after) have created something that will have your head bobbing and your ear drums screaming for more! As I sit here writing this blog, I got “Alignment” on replay and although I had already assumed that “Dictate” was going to probably be my most favourite track off of the mixtape, I can’t get “Still Young” out of my head! Not only is the beat off the hook, but this tune has got me smiling and reminiscing on my young years and the fact that I don’t ever want to grow old, but just like APB says -> “Forever young, even when I’m 60…” <—YES!

Song after song, I found myself not wanting the track before the next to end but eager to hear what’s next! Makes me wonder how nowadays, there are plenty of albums/mixtapes that don’t even compare to that one hit that spawned from them, but trust me you won’t be thinking that once you download this one! If you disagree with me, please let me know so I can laugh, then potentially take you to the ear doctor! :P

“Alignment” has it all! It’s consistent, energetic, reminiscent and creative! Now imagine all of that bundled into 16 great tracks fully equipped with attitude, true words and pride! The Airplane Boys have come a long way in their music career thus far. From songs such as: “Sleep”, “Escape”, “Where The Wild Things Are” to their latest tracks: “Affliction” and “New Blood”, it’s no wonder why all of us who dig each of their joints, always anticipate the next one! Everyone has their own opinions and to each is own, but I’ve heard my fair share of mixtapes, singles, albums especially since joining WhatsGoodToronto.com and I’m pretty confident enough to say that this current one is unique and rich, while being the exact epitome of what music SHOULD be today! We highly recommend that you download it and tell your friends about it!

Melanie Fiona @ the 2012 Grammy Awards

WhatsGoodToronto.com would like to congratulate fellow Torontonian: Melanie Fiona on her big winnings at this years Grammy Awards!

The beautiful and talented artist scored two Grammys for: Best traditional R&B Performance and Best R&B Song for her Cee Lo Green collaboration “Fool For You”. This track has over 2 million views combined on YouTube, and it’s only a matter of time until the rest of the world becomes familiar with her talent and drive. I’d say sh came along way in just 3 years, when she released her debut album entitled: “The Bridge”. Fiona has had a taste of the Grammys before, when she earned her first ever nomination for her track “It Kills Me”. This time she got it! It must be that Portuguese mix in her…lol ;) .

Fellow Toronto star: Drake was also in attendance, where he introduced Nicki Minaj’s performance for “Roman Holiday (The Exorcism of Roman), which was…well…uhh…I don’t even know!

Here’s Cee Lo Green and Melanie Fiona’s winning track:“Fool For You”

A revolution in training, Jason De Los Reyes breaks apart from all other fitness trainers. Jason De Los Reyes of the Jay D Movement, takes old school, primal training and uses different tools such as kettlebells, Indian clubs, Mace bells, Sandbags and body weight to whip his students into shape.

I met Jay D a few years ago while working out at a big box gym in Mississauga as he was swinging his kettlebell. I was curious so I asked him if I could try it out. He let me try his kettlebell and immediately corrected some basic errors with my swing. Little did I know, that he was a trainer and would eventually change the way I looked at, not only training, but life. This was the start of a new journey for me. He introduced himself and told me about a kettlebell class that was starting soon. I joined and was hooked on a new training style different from running on the treadmill for 30 minutes and lifting weights for three sets of 10 reps.

Jay D’s passion is evident from the moment you start training with him as he prepares you physically and mentally for the zombie apocalypse. Jay D doesn’t train for aesthetic based superficial goals, but rather for performance. Zombies don’t care if you look good, they’ll try to eat you anyway. It matters how many times you can beat that zombie down with a bat.

He teaches movement using unconventional methods and equipment. He’s right there with you as you learn to flip 300+ pound tires, swing a sledgehammer like a madman, or using your own body weight to help you understand your own body.

Currently, Jay D teaches out of several independent gyms out of Mississauga and plans to open up his own gym soon. His philosophy is to motivate his students to be the best they can be and with someone with Jay D’s knowledge, passion and experience on your side, it’s impossible not to improve yourself.

We’re almost one month into the new year. How many of you have made a resolution to get into shape but haven’t done so because of a lack of motivation or just plain boredom at your gym while you lift weights and spend endless hours on the treadmill? Looking for something fun and different?

Be sure to check out the Jay D Movement on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/thejaydmovement) and his website www.jaydtraining.com.

DICTATE: The Airplane Boys (Artwork by Justin Create)

dic·tate/ˈdiktāt/
Verb:
Lay down authoritatively; prescribe: “attempts to dictate policy”; “the right to dictate to me”.
Noun: An order or principle that must be obeyed.

That’s the other guy’s definition, but in The Airplane Boy’s case; they definitely put more of an in-depth, go-hard, this is us kind of spin on the term “Dictate”, which is the title of their latest single.

If you haven’t heard it yet, I highly recommend that you do, since the artistry and unique sound of Beck Motley & Bon Voyage (that many of you should be familiar with) is taken deeper, while the passion still spews from the sound + lyrics. From the moment the team here at WGT heard these two guys, we thoroughly enjoyed everything they have delivered, and after seeing them live, speaking with them and keeping track of their endless projects, it’s easy to say that the dynamic duo continues to evolve on a platform that just screams creativity.

The song is hard, focused and embarks on that same APB feel, which is quite hard to find nowadays when listening to whats out there. Consistency <- they’ve got it! This song emphasizes on the fact that anyone who doubt’s and wants to hate on them can all go somewhere else; and believe me, the sun don’t shine there. It’s them in the flesh, dictating who they are, and what they’re all about. Possibly a little more edgy than any of their other tracks, while offering the listener the attitude that speaks loud and clear to the fact that The Airplane Boys aren’t going anywhere but up!

“When the sun rise, I rise too” – ‘Dictate’

The track is their second song off of their latest mixtape -> ‘Alignment‘. Check it out below!
